The International Water Association (IWA) is hosting the first webinar in a new series exploring sustainability challenges facing the water sector amid accelerating climate change, biodiversity loss and freshwater scarcity.
This session will introduce the concept of absolute sustainability grounded in planetary boundaries and examine its relevance for water utilities and sector planning. Participants will explore practical examples of implementation and learn how life cycle analysis can support sustainability assessment and decision-making.
Co-organized by IWA’s Climate Smart Utilities initiative and the IWA Specialist Group on Sustainability in the Water Sector, the series will conclude with a workshop in Glasgow in 2026 and contribute to a best-practice compendium.
