A webinar on 27 August 2026 will explore how young people can participate in citizen science and contribute to biodiversity observation, environmental monitoring and research in the Vhembe Biosphere.
Held as part of National Science Month, the session will examine applications of citizen science beyond river and water monitoring, including the value of community-generated data and opportunities for young people to take part in producing scientific knowledge.
The webinar will feature Madela Khumalo, Chairperson of the Vhembe Biosphere Reserve Youth Network, as facilitator; Charlene Russell, Ecologist, Educator and Learning Systems Specialist at GroundTruth, as keynote speaker; Suvarna Parbhoo Mohan, Lead Citizen Science Programme Manager at SANBI; and Dr. Farai Dondofema, Chief Technician and Lecturer at the University of Venda’s School of Environmental Sciences.
