The International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO) is holding an online webinar on 17 November 2026. It is organized by the IUFRO working party on biocultural diversity (9.03.06) and the IUFRO division on forest policy and economics (9.00.00).
The webinar will examine how mangrove landscapes support biocultural diversity and local livelihoods. It will also look at how conservation, restoration, land-use change and development pressures are reshaping these relationships. The session draws on experience from several projects, including Japan–Indonesia collaborations supported by SATREPS and the Heiwa Nakajima Foundation. It will highlight community-based management, livelihood diversification and the cultural values embedded in coastal socio-ecological systems.
Speakers from Asia and the Americas will take part in a comparative discussion on how mangrove governance can better connect biodiversity conservation with locally grounded and socially just futures.
