The African Union-AIP Water Investment Summit 2025 aims to mobilize investments in climate-resilient water and sanitation projects and strengthen governance and accountability in the water sector. The Summit will contribute to advancing water security, economic growth, and sustainable development across the African continent.
The African Union (AU) Commission, the AU-Continental Africa Water Investment Programme (AIP), the AU-AIP International High-level Panel on Water Investments for Africa, and the African Union Development Agency (NEPAD) will convene the Summit with the Government of South Africa. The meeting will take place in the context of South Africa’s G20 Presidency and will align with its priorities of rapid and inclusive economic growth, poverty and hunger eradication, and climate sustainability.
In line with these priorities, the Summit seeks to: facilitate increased access to climate finance for water security and resilience; showcase bankable water and sanitation projects to potential investors and funders; promote legal, policy, and regulatory reforms for an enabling investment environment and to enhance water investments; and strengthen partnerships between governments, the private sector, and development partners. The Summit will result in a Summit Declaration that will be presented to G20 Leaders, AU decision-making bodies, and the 2026 UN Water Conference.
