The Prairie Conservation Action Plan (PCAP) is hosting a webinar on how biodiversity observations collected by scientists, naturalists and community members contribute to species conservation and biodiversity monitoring in Saskatchewan.
Presented by Andrea Benville and Erin Swerdfeger of the Saskatchewan Conservation Data Centre (SKCDC), part of the Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment, the session will explain how species at risk and other rare species are tracked through provincial biodiversity records. Participants will learn how the SKCDC maps species distributions, maintains conservation status information and supports conservation planning, research and land use decision-making.
The webinar will also introduce the SKCDC’s iNaturalist project and highlight priority species and groups for which additional observations are needed, including rare plants and species currently under consideration in national conservation assessment processes. The session is intended for biologists, naturalists and anyone interested in contributing to biodiversity conservation through citizen science.
The webinar is part of PCAP’s Native Prairie Speaker Series, a monthly programme focused on prairie conservation and species at risk.
